I've said it before... Mother Nature hates us.
We just got over a weekend of utterly crazy rain here in the Bangor area. Lots of spots with flooding, and various degrees of trouble to accompany it. In Brewer, firefighters had to break out their new boat to rescue people stranded in their house due to rising waters on Brooks Street.
And of course, part of Pushaw Road in Glenburn went totally underwater when a section near the Orono road completely washed away. That's causing a pretty radical detour to get around it, making travel difficult for residents living out that way. The photos are extraordinary, if not terrifyingly impressive.
But of course, Mother Nature hates us, remember?
Tonight (Monday), rains will come to the area and dump up to another inch on us before it's all over. The National Weather Service has even issued a flood watch. That means we have even more potential flooding coming into the area. An area that's already taken a few hits. It's hard to say what could happen to the already troubled Pushaw Road if more intense rains come through.
Maybe kids will wake up to no school? I remember when I was in junior high during the flood of '87, I had trouble believing that school was actually canceled. My mother couldn't believe it either, and actually called the school because she thought I was making it up, hahaha. I can't blame her. I didn't exactly "love" school.
Hopefully, the rain will end up being significantly less than the forecasters think. But if you live in a low-lying area that's prone to flooding, you may want to think about what the next 24 hours will bring. In the meantime, let's all cross our fingers...
