Suspect In A Milford To Holden Police Pursuit Committed Suicide
A pursuit of a suspect that traveled through several towns ended with the suspect taking his own life.
The Suspect Had Allegedly Violated a Protection From Abuse Order in Eddington
At this point, the identity of the suspect in this case has not been released. The incident began when the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office learned, at around 6:30 Thursday evening, that a man had allegedly violated a protection from abuse order in Eddington. The victim in this case had relocated to a friend's house out of concern for their safety, but the suspect had shown up, in violation of the protection order.
As the Sheriff's Office continued to investigate, they learned that the suspect had fled from an attempted traffic stop by the Brewer Police earlier in the evening. Sources informed investigators that the man had confirmed he failed to stop for the police, that he had made life-threatening comments, and that he had a firearm. At this point, multiple agencies became involved in the search.
A Police Pursuit Began at a Store in Milford When the Suspect Ran
Just before 11 pm, a Penobscot County Sheriff's Supervisor made contact with the suspect at a business in Milford but the man fled. He led Police on a chase through multiple towns which ended on Copeland Hill in Holden. The suspect slowed down and tried to take his own life.
No One Else Was Hurt in the Police Chase from Milford to Brewer
The vehicle left the road and ran into a fence, next to a residential property. Deputies secured the area and determined the suspect was badly injured. They safely removed him from the vehicle and he received life-saving efforts from medical personnel. He was transported to a local hospital where he ultimately passed away from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
This investigation and pursuit included personnel from the Sheriff's Office, Holden Police Department, Maine State Police, Brewer Police Department, and Veazie Police.
