A Calais man has died after capsizing his canoe in a Meddybemps lake.

Game Wardens told WABI-TV that the accident happened at around 4:00 Sunday afternoon on Bearce Lake. A man's kayak capsized and he was in the water, wearing his life jacket and calling for help. Two other kayakers paddled over to him but, by the time they got to him, he was floating and unresponsive in the water. They brought Francis R. Beaulieu to shore and called 911. Emergency responders worked to revive the man but were unsuccessful.

The incident remains under investigation.
