Maine Stores are Selling Halloween Candy and I’m Just Not Ready

Could someone please tell local retailers that it's too early for candy corn and peanut butter pumpkins?  

Are Maine Retailers Rushing Halloween by Putting Out Candy in August?

It was a typical shopping trip the other day, as I looked for dinner ingredients and some sweet treat for dessert.

I had my earbuds in, listening to Cody Johnson singing about the Fall, when I happened upon the aisle that always features seasonal items.

Honestly, I would have expected some barbecue tools,  freezer pops, and summer-themed napkins.

I even would have approved of back-to-school snacks, like individual bags of chips and granola bars.  

But what I found instead nearly caused a scream worthy of my namesake from the Scary Movie franchise. 

The aisle was filled with small bags of candy, all displayed in open boxes decorated with black cats and jack o'lanterns.  

Candy corn. Miniature Twix bars. Orange Peeps with pumpkin faces.  

Halloween candy. In August. 

What are they thinking?  

August in Maine Holds Plenty of Summer Fun, So Why Rush Halloween?

It's challenging enough dealing with the first week of August, knowing that school will soon be in session.  

But let's not hasten the end of summer. Seriously!  

We have weeks to go, filled with fairs, concerts, and plenty of outdoor events.  

Halloween in Maine means, to quote the Zac Brown Band, Colder Weather. 

It's a time when kids fight their Moms who insist they wear a parka over their costumes.  

I mean, it's not unusual to have snow on Halloween.  

Is anyone really ready to think about that?  

I was so traumatized by the Halloween images that I really needed something sweet to ease my distress.  

The fact that the Reese's cups were shaped like pumpkins is not something I'm willing to discuss.
