Maine ranks as the seventh-most expensive state for a typical hospital birth scenario, with an ambulance ride, standard delivery, and one additional recovery night.
Costing an estimated $24,363, Maine’s total was $9,567 less than Alaska, the most expensive state, and $9,738 more than Mississippi, the least expensive, according to an analysis by personal finance company Vettory.

One of three New England states in the top 10, Maine joins Connecticut and Vermont as maternity care costs continue to rise nationwide.
