66-Year-Old Plymouth Woman Was the Subject of a Yellow Flag Evaluation

Evelyn Melanson, 66, of Plymouth was released after a yellow flag evaluation that was prompted by an incident on Friday night, but now faces criminal charges.

Penobscot Deputies Responded to a Report of a Suicidal Woman

Deputies with the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office were called to the town of Plymouth just before 5:30 Friday evening for a report of a suicidal female. She had also allegedly threatened a second person with a firearm. Officials say that during the encounter, the other person was able to get control of the weapon and all parties exited the house, except for the suspect.

Several agencies, including the Maine State Police Tactical Team and Penobscot County Crisis Negotiators tried to communicate with the woman, but were unable to convince her to surrender. Finally arrest warrants were requested and granted for Melanson and for the residence. The Sheriff's Office expanded the search and found Melanson in a camper.

Melanson Faces Several Domestic Violence Charges

Evelyn Melanson was arrested and charged with:

  • Domestic violence criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon
  • Domestic violence reckless conduct
  • Domestic violence assault.

She was taken to the Penobscot County Jail.
