A 66-year-old Maine woman has become the oldest woman to swim across the English Channel.

Pat Gallant-Charette of Westbrook completed her swim Saturday.

She attempted the 21-mile swim last year but developed severe motion sickness and had to stop.

The new record, previously held by a 64-year-old Australian woman, comes just four weeks after she successfully swam across the Molokai Channel in Hawaii.

According to her blog, Pat's Channel Swim, she plans on swimming Cook Strait in New Zealand in 2019.

Gallant-Charette is attempting to complete the Ocean's Seven, a series of long-distance open-water swims. It includes North Channel, Molokai Channel, English Channel, Catalina Channel, Cook Strait, Tsugaru Strait and the Strait of Gibraltar.

Cook Strait is the only swim Gallant-Charette has not completed.
