Folks in Maine Show Off Their Beautiful Trees on Christmas Morning [PHOTOS]
There's something special about waking up early on Christmas morning, rushing to wake up everyone in the household, and eagerly inspecting the family Christmas tree to discover the delightful changes that occurred overnight.
Be it the addition of more presents, filled stockings, or charming displays, this moment always stands out as a highlight of the holiday season for those who partake in the festivities.
I vividly recall the restless excitement of Christmas Eve nights, anticipating the surprises awaiting beneath the tree the next morning. I often say, "There's nothing more exciting than the unknown," and this sentiment rings especially true on Christmas Eve.
Now, let's delve into the origin of the tradition—why do we bring trees into our homes during the holiday season?
According to History.com, this practice has roots that extend further back than one might imagine. Long before the rise of Christianity, plants and trees that retained their greenery throughout the year held special significance for people during the winter. Similar to how folks decorate their homes with pine, spruce, and fir trees, ancient cultures used to hang evergreen boughs over their doors and windows. In various countries, there was also a belief that these evergreens could ward off witches, ghosts, evil spirits, and illness.
Now, to celebrate the festive season, we invited Maine residents to showcase their festive decorating and wrapping efforts. We took to our Facebook page and greeted everyone with a "Merry Christmas! How did your tree look this morning?"
Mainers took this opportunity seriously, demonstrating a profound dedication to the holiday spirit. The beauty of their Christmas trees is vividly captured in these images from Christmas morning 2023!
