Police Seize Guns from Man on Maine Island Under Yellow Flag Law
Maine law enforcement agencies seized multiple firearms, under the yellow flag law, from a man in Waldo County.
Why Was the Suspect Being Investigated?
It was just after 7:30 Monday morning when the Waldo County Regional Communications Center first received a report of an adult male on 700 Acre Island, who was wearing a ballistic vest and was believed to be concealing at least one firearm. The caller told dispatchers that the man had been given a boat ride from the Lincolnville Ferry Terminal to the island and was last seen walking into the woods.

Was He Arrested?
Members of the Waldo County Sheriff's Office, with help from the United States Coast Guard, located the man in an outboard-powered skiff, traveling near the north end of the island. When deputies spoke with him, officials say he was not armed and was not wearing a ballistic vest. He was cooperative with authorities and was taken to a medical facility for evaluation and treatment.
Why Were His Firearms Seized?
Members of the Waldo County Sheriff's Office and Maine Marine Patrol returned to the island over the next two days to look into the incident further. As part of this investigation, searches were conducted on 700 Acre Island and, utilizing the State of Maine's Yellow Flag law, numerous firearms were seized, including the one he was seen with on the day of the original report.
Because this is an ongoing investigation and no criminal charges have yet been filed, the Waldo County Sheriff's Office has not released the suspect's name.
