Maine Shooting Update – A Woman is Dead, Her Husband’s in Custody
Maine Police say the suspect in a domestic shooting in Peru surrendered to authorities.
Officials Say the Victim and Suspect Are Married
The Maine Department of Public Safety has identified the victim as Dale Gaudreau, 59, and the alleged shooter as her husband, David Gaudreau, 60.
The Suspect Allegedly Called Family Members and Admitted to the Shooting
The Oxford County Sheriff's Office received several 911 calls Tuesday night, just after 7:00, reporting a vehicle crash near 106-109 Auburn Road in Peru. The callers told officials that a truck's driver had fired into a car after stopping next to it.
When first responders arrived on the scene they found a deceased woman in the driver's seat. She was later identified as Dale Gaudreau. The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit was called to assist in the investigation, which led to David Gaudreau, the victim's husband. Officials say David had allegedly called several family members and told them that he had shot his wife.
A little after 11:30 Tuesday night, David Gaudreau surrendered himself to law enforcement. He was transported to the Oxford County Jail and charged with murder.
Route 108's Closure Cancels Classes
Classes were canceled at the Dirigo Elementary School due to Route 108 being closed during the investigation. School officials say this will not affect the date of the last of classes.
Police say the investigation is ongoing. There is no threat to the public.
