Lewiston Police are investigating after a shooting downtown that sent one person to the hospital.

Witnesses Reported Hearing Multiple Gunshots

It was approximately 1:00 Monday morning when Lewiston Police were called to the area of Pine and Jefferson Streets for a report of multiple gunshots. When the officers arrived at the scene, they spoke with several witnesses who told them they heard gunfire and saw a vehicle speeding off. The police officers canvassed the area and found several shell casings in the road.

Police Were Called When An Injured Juvenile Turned Up at 7-Eleven

A short time later, officers answered a call to 7-Eleven on Main Street for a report of a male juvenile who appeared to have a gunshot wound to his leg. Police took a look at a vehicle that had numerous bullet holes, while the paramedics examined the youth.He was found to have injuries sustained by glass/shrapnel, likely from the vehicle, and not by a direct bullet.

The Vehicle's Occupants Are Not Cooperating

Officials say the victim and all the other passengers in the vehicle are not cooperating with the investigation. Anyone who believes they have information about this incident is encouraged to contact Detective Wiers at the Lewiston Police Department.

This case comes just two days after Lewiston Police responded to a report of a man firing a gun in the area of Essex Street in Lewiston at approximately 11:30 on Saturday night. When the police arrived, Nathan Savage of Auburn continued to fire his weapon. A perimeter was set up and negotiators tried to resolve the situation, but around 3:30 in the morning, the police found Savage in the woods, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

There's no indication that these two cases are linked.
