Maine Officials Recover the Body of a Missing Colorado Kayaker
The body of a missing man in a kayak has been recovered from Frenchman Bay in Bar Harbor.
The Victim Was Taking a Solo Trip on Saturday
Dennis Webber, 73, of Colorado Springs, Colorado went missing after launching his kayak Saturday afternoon.
His Family Called Bar Harbor Police When He Failed to Return
It was a sad ending to a search in the waters off Bar Harbor after a Colorado man was reported missing. According to the Maine Marine Patrol, Mr. Webber left in his kayak from the end of Seely Road in Bar Harbor at approximately 4:30 Saturday. By 8:30 in the evening, his family members contacted Bar Harbor Police to report that he had failed to return. Members of the Maine Marine Patrol, the U.S. Coast Guard, and the National Park Service immediately began looking for the kayaker.

Officials Say He Was Wearing a Life Jacket
National Park personnel located Mr. Webber's body near the Thrumcap, which is a small island near his reported 'put-in' location at Seely Road. He was wearing a life jacket when his body was found. At the last report, his kayak was still missing. Mr. Webber's body was transported to the Bar Harbor town pier, where local EMS personnel pronounced him deceased. An autopsy will now be conducted by the Chief Medical Examiner to determine the cause of his death.
Our condolences to his family and friends.
