A Maine native, serving in the Marines in South Carolina, was shot and killed at an air station on Friday.

Family members confirmed to WGME-TV that the deceased is 21-year-old Tyler Wallingford of Standish, who was shot at Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort at around 9:30 p.m. Wallingford had been in the United States Marines since 2013 and, whenever he was on leave, would serve as a volunteer firefighter in the town of Standish. Another Marine, 21-year-old Corporal Spencer Daily, is a suspect in the shooting and is in custody. Both men served as Aircraft Ordinance Technicians with VMFAT-501. The incident is under investigation and very few details have been released.

Wallingford will be brought back to Maine for his funeral. There's no word on whether a procession will be a part of that process.

We'll update this story as more details become available.
