A Maine man has won $500,000 by surviving 3 months in the wilds of Patagonia.

Zach Fowler is no stranger to creative living. He shares a Yurt in the town of Appleton with his wife and two daughters. Living off the grid requires strength, stamina, and out-of-the-box thinking. Those qualities combined to make Zach's adventure on the History Channel's survival show 'Alone' a success!

His casting submission video (above) starts out with Zach eating his dinner - a single grub. He shows off his shelter, made with large hemlock branches serving as a roof. And he even makes a maple sap spigot by hand, so he could get some of the sweet nectar. Still, even with all these survival skills, it must have been challenging being in Patagonia's unpredictable climate, all alone, for three months.

When it was all said and done, Zach survived 87 days of solitude, with only the contents of a single small backpack to help him. He lost a total of 73 pounds but gained $500,000 when he won the competition on Thursday night!

Congratulations, Zach! You represented Maine well, and made the rest of us feel like wimps for whining about a little snowfall.
