A Maine teenager is accused of attacking New York City Police Officers with a machete on New Year's Eve.

Who Is The Suspect?

Trevor Bickford, 19, is from Wells, Maine and is believed to have traveled to New York in the past week. According to WNBC in New York, a relative of Bickford's had contacted the FBI over his alleged pro-jihadist views. Bickford had been interviewed in December in relation to that report. When he was arrested, he allegedly had a journal in his backpack that also expressed some pro-jihadist beliefs.

Was This in the Secured Area of Times Square for the Ball Drop?

Officials say the attacks took place outside of the secured area around the ball drop in Times Square. They assured New York residents that this appeared to be an isolated incident and there was no ongoing threat to the public.
