Maine Man Allegedly Threatened to ‘Shoot Up’ a Former Work Place
A Maine man is facing a felony charge after allegedly threatening to shoot up his former place of employment.
Who Was Arrested?
Benjamin Scott Therrien, 28, has been charged with felony terrorizing for the incident that happened this week in Pittsfield. After his arrest, Therrien was being held at the Somerset County Jail on $10,000 bail.
How Did Police Learn of the Threat?
Therrien had once been employed by Hancock Lumber in Pittsfield, but was no longer working there when the incident happened. Pittsfield Police Chief Vincente Morris told the Kennebec Journal that, on Tuesday, Therrien allegedly told two employees of the Pittsfield sawmill that he had plans to take a gun to the facility, 'shoot up' the place, and then shoot himself. Police were notified and Therrien was arrested later that same day.
In the meantime, the Hancock Lumber sawmill in Pittsfield took measures to protect its employees from any potential violence. Company officials stayed in contact with police so they could resume normal operations once he was in custody.
Why Was Therrien No Longer Working for the Company?
Police have declined to comment on whether Therrien had been fired from the facility or whether he had left of his own accord. It's not clear how long it's been since his employment ended with the company.
We'll update this story as more details become available.
