A Father and Son Went Missing in Their Fishing Boat Off the Coast of South Addison
Chester Barrett and his son, Aaron Barrett, were reported missing by a family member when they didn't return as expected on Saturday.
The Missing Men Were Transiting Back From Edmunds When They Failed to Arrive
Maine Marine Patrol officials say the Barretts were transiting from Edmunds to South Addison with Chester's fishing vessel, 'Sudden Impact.' when they vanished. A search was launched at approximately 7 pm by the Marine Patrol, focusing on the water and the shoreline between South Addison and Lubec, but no sign of the men was found. U.S. Coast Guard officials and local fishermen joined in the search that finally had to be postponed due to poor visibility. It was picked up again on Sunday morning, with multiple agencies searching 950 square miles of water and coastline.
The Search for the Two Maine Fishermen Has Been Suspended
Sunday evening, the U.S. Coast Guard Sector Northern New England suspended the search for the missing men. According to WABI-TV, Captain Matt Baker, Commander of the Sector said it wasn't an easy decision.
We conduct every search and rescue mission with the hope of returning missing people to safety, which is why suspending any search and rescue effort is one of the hardest decisions I make.
Captain Baker offered his sincerest condolences to the family, as do we.
