Investigations in Waterville and Portland resulted in the arrests of three suspects from out-of-state on drug charges.

Maine Law Enforcement is Always Looking for People Importing/Selling Illegal Drugs

Maine Police agencies are always busy with drug busts, seizing fentanyl, crack cocaine, meth, and other drugs that are often being brought into Maine from other states to be sold on our streets. Local law enforcement works with the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and others to try and stem the influx of illegal drugs. Over the weekend, two investigations resulted in drug seizures and the arrests of three people not native to Maine.

Two Suspect From Massachusetts Were Arrested in South Portland

South Portland Police report the arrests of two people from Massachusetts on Saturday, February 8th, after a police pursuit that began at approximately 1:30 a.m. An officer tried to pull a vehicle over for speeding but the driver wouldn't stop until arriving at a dead-end. At this point, they put the vehicle in reverse, striking the bumper of the police cruiser before being ordered at gunpoint to exit the vehicle. A search resulted in the seizure of large amounts of suspected drugs, disguised in popular candy packaging.

Two people face multiple charges:

Hamza A. Mahamud, 21, of Roxbury, Massachusetts, who was driving the vehicle:

  • Reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon
  • Aggravated criminal mischief
  • Unlawful trafficking in cocaine
  • Unlawful trafficking in marijuana
  • Unlawful possession of methamphetamine
  • Aggravated trafficking in heroin/fentanyl powder
  • Unlawful possession of cocaine base
  • Operating without a license
  • Failure to stop
  • Driving to Endanger

Gerald A. Daughtry, 33, of Roslindale, Massachusetts (passenger):

  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Unlawful trafficking in cocaine
  • Unlawful trafficking in marijuana
  • Unlawful possession of methamphetamine
  • Aggravated trafficking in heroin/fentanyl powder
  • Unlawful possession of cocaine base

Both men were transported to the Cumberland County Jail and are being held on $30,000 cash bail each.

A Bronx, New York Man Faces Charges After a Drug Bust in Waterville

In a separate incident, Waterville Police arrested a New York man for allegedly bringing drugs into Maine. When officials learned that the suspect was set to return to Maine on February 6 with a large quantity of crack cocaine and fentanyl, they located him and, according to WGME-TV, allegedly found him in possession of 300 grams of crack cocaine and almost 30 grams of fentanyl.

Andre Jones, 36, of Bronx, New York is charged with two counts of aggravated trafficking in Schedule W drugs. He was taken to the Kennebec County Correctional Facility, where his bail was set at $25,000 cash.

Maine Police agencies encourage residents to report any suspicious activity related to illegal drug sales to their local law enforcement agency.
