While a Maine Couple Was on Vacation, Pollard Took Over Their Bank Account

The FBI began an investigation in October 2022 that led to the charges after a Maine couple lost nearly $400,000 through unauthorized wire transfers and purchases from their bank account. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office District of Maine, they said that after they returned home from vacation, they were denied online access to their bank account. The couple called the bank to request their username and password be reset and then found multiple wire transfers on the statement.

An investigation into the theft revealed that in August 2022, an unknown person had called the bank pretending to be the account holder, requesting the account balance and updating the contact phone number. Shortly afterward, they also updated the contact phone number. For two weeks, after those changes were made, several transfers were made between the victims' home equity line of credit account to their savings account. Multiple wire transfers were subsequently made to a Texas bank account held by Kyle Lawless Pollar, 27.

Texas Man Stole Over $360,000 From the Maine Couple

The four wire transfers totaled $360,880. $66,000 was transferred to a Texas jeweler. Pollar withdrew funds from his account in cash and cashier's checks, and the cashier's checks were deposited in other Texas bank accounts in his name. Security cameras captured him making deposits and transferring funds.

Pollar faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 for each of the four counts, followed by up to three years of supervised release. He will also be ordered to pay restitution to his victims.
