During Gov. Paul LePage's latest town-hall-style meeting, this time in Orono, the governor said a Maine company is on the verge of shedding 900 jobs.

The governor didn't name the company at Wednesday night's meeting, but he said high energy costs are to blame for the upcoming job cuts, according to a report from MPBN.

“There’s a big company that hasn’t come out yet, I happen to know about it and I’m sworn to secrecy until they make a public announcement, but we’re talking 900 jobs,” LePage said. “In the most prosperous part of our state, down south.”

LePage said Maine will continue to lose manufacturing jobs until the state does something to lower energy costs, cut taxes and adopt a more business-friendly environment.

As he has done in previous town hall meetings, the governor also discussed reducing Maine’s income tax, reforming the state’s welfare system and addressing Maine's drug crisis.

The governor will hold his next town hall meeting Thursday, April 14 in Newcastle.
