A Standish man is facing charges in connection with a kitten that was left sealed in a tote and left near a Standish school.
The Suspect is Charged with Animal Cruelty
Shane T. Wescott, 37, of Standish was arrested on Thursday. WGME-TV reports he's charged with animal cruelty and is scheduled to appear in a Bridgton courtroom in July.
The Kitten Was Found Near the Woods Outside Bonny Eagle
Cumberland County Sheriff's Deputies were called to Bonny Eagle High School in Standish on May 18th, for a report of an abandoned animal. They learned that a citizen had found a kitten in a plastic tote, along the treeline of the parking lot at the school. The cover was on the tote and the 6-month-old kitten inside was alive but cold and terrified.

Officials rushed the kitten to a local veterinary hospital, where she received treatment. Sadly, she had to be euthanized later, due to other issues connected with her lack of care.
The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office released a picture of a white pickup with a black tailgate that was believed to be connected to the case. They also included a description of the suspect and asked for tips from the public.
