A Freak Accident Caused the Death of a New Jersey Child in Maine
Maine State Police say the death of a child in Limerick was the result of an accident while she played with her sibling.
The Child Was Only 6 Years Old
Lucy Morgan, 6, of Stockholm, New Jersey died while visiting Limerick, Maine.
A Freak Accident While Lucy and Her Brother Played Outside Caused Her Injuries
Limerick Fire and EMS crews responded to a home on North Shore Drive at around noon on June 1, 2024, for a report of an injured child. The girl sustained a critical injury to her head and was transported to Southern Maine Health Care in Sanford. From there, she was flown via Life Flight to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where she remained until she died of her injuries on June 5, 2024.
Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss says an investigation by the State Police revealed that Lucy's injury was not intentional and had happened while she and her 10-year-old brother were playing outside. Investigators learned that the aluminum shaft of a badminton racquet had become dislodged from the wooden handle, causing the shaft to strike the girl in the head, piercing through her skull.
The Morgan Family Was On Vacation
Officials say the family lives in New Jersey. They were vacationing in Maine at the time of the accident.
