A series of meetings scheduled for this week to discuss the future of the lobster industry in Maine have been postponed to a later date. Unforeseen illness has forced the Department of Marine Resources to reschedule the sessions.

Communications Director for the DMR, Jeff Nichols contacted me today to let me know that the meetings scheduled for today and tomorrow will be rescheduled soon. The dates of the new meetings haven't been set, but folks can keep an eye on the DMR website for updates.

The meetings will feature Department of Marine Resources Commissioner Patrick Keliher, who will address the future of the lobstering industry. It was a tough year, with low prices and competition from Canadian fisheries, so Keliher wants to look at whether changes need to be made in state policies and regulations.
