A man who was allegedly in violation of a protection order has been fatally shot by Lincoln Police.
Lincoln Police Say the Suspect Was Allegedly Violating a Protection Order
Derek Beach was confronted by the police just after 8:30 Wednesday night at the home at 7 Whalen Street in Lincoln. Police were notified by a complainant that there was a protection from abuse order that prohibited Beach from being at the residence. In addition, Beach had bail conditions that required him to stay away from the address.
Officers Had Tased the Suspect Before He Threatened Them With a Knife
When the officers arrived at the scene, they tried to negotiate with Mr. Beach, but he didn't respond to their requests. The police officers tased Beach, who then allegedly lunged at them with a knife. Sergeant Michael Winslow and Officer Kristofer Milner shot Beach, who was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Two Members of the Lincoln Police Department Are Now on Administrative Leave
The incident will now be investigated by the Maine Attorney General's Office, which is standard procedure for any law enforcement-involved shooting. Officer Milner and Sergeant Winslow have both been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure, pending the outcome of the investigation.
