One woman was injured in a fire this week at the building that was once the scene of a mass shooting in Lewiston.
Lewiston, Maine Fire at Former Site of Mass Shooting
Schemengee's Bar and Grill never reopened after the shooting on October 25, 2023, that left 18 people dead and 13 wounded. Army Reservist Robert Card carried out the shootings at the bar and at the Just In Time Recreation bowling alley in Lewiston.
After a two-day manhunt, Card was found alone in a trailer, dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The building at 551 Lincoln Street is now being used as a warming shelter and resale shop, operated by Kaydenz Kitchen Food Pantry.

According to a post on the Kaydenz Kitchen Facebook page, no one was hurt in the explosion that happened outside the building just before 3:30 Tuesday afternoon. But the fire has caused a significant setback in their plans for a Community Resource Center/Thrift Shop.

The State Fire Marshal's Office says when crews arrived they found heavy fire on the outside of the main building that was spreading rapidly to the interior. Aggressive efforts by fire crews stopped the blaze from extending further into the building.
One woman who was in the area sustained non-life-threatening burn injuries.
Lewiston, Maine Warming Center's Owners Will Rebuild After Fire
This is the second fire for Kaydenz Kitchen. The pantry's first location, on Lisbon Street in Lewiston, was lost to fire in 2018.
Owner Kevin Boilard to WGME-TV that his family will now have to rebuild.
Fire Marshal's Office investigators are now working to determine how the fire started.
