Maine Officials Say the Victim Survived Being Shot and Pistol Whipped

The details of the attack in July 2023 are horrific. Victim Spencer Trott, formerly of Lamoine, was shot in the head at close range, execution-style, and then Dubrovsky pistol-whipped Trott in his head 25 to 30 times as he lay bleeding. According to the Ellsworth American, co-defendant Duncan Haass said it seemed like Dubrovsky was trying to kill Trott.

When Mr. Trott was unconscious, Dubrovsky tied his hands behind his back and was took him to a remote location in a pickup truck. Trott feared he would be executed but, instead, he was dumped and then Dubrovsky and Haass fled the scene. The victim, who had been shot and brutally beaten, jumped into a body of water to hide from his assailants, before hiding in a shed for about three hours before making his way to the road where, ironically, Haass's mother picked him up. She was returning home from taking her son to the Sheriff's Office after learning they were looking for him.

The Victim Survived But Has a Traumatic Brain Injury

Mr. Trott has been left with a traumatic brain injury and a sense of fear and paranoia that his family says will likely deter him from getting a job in the future. Dubrovsky's sentence was part of a plea agreement.
