Close Call on Maine Road as a Tree Goes Through a Windshield

This is something that is every driver's nightmare. A man driving a transit van on Route 11 in Maine saw a tree coming down in the road and the next thing he knew, the top of the tree was coming through his windshield.

First off, everyone is okay. Thankfully! This could have been much worse.

According to the Maine State Police in a post on their Facebook page, a man from Ohio was headed south on Route 1 in Moro Plantation in Aroostook County, west of Houlton on Saturday in the windy conditions from tropical storm Lee.

The driver saw a falling tree in front of him and tried to stop the van, but it was too late. The top of the tree went through the windshield of the van and broke off inside. The driver had five passengers with him and none of them were seriously injured. The driver just had a few minor cuts.

Luckily everyone is okay, because if the timing was a little off, that could have been tragic.

This is a good reminder when storms with high winds like Nor'Easters, tropical storms, and hurricanes hit the state and winds are whipping up where you want to travel, it's probably best to stay home and off the roads until the storm passes.

It's not often we get storms like Lee here in Maine. The last two major tropical storms I remember were Bob in 1991 and Gloria in 1985 and they brought down a lot of trees, so it's easy just to forget just how dangerous being out in those conditions can be.
