We've had a fairly mild fall here in Maine, so far.

However, as we get ready to officially kick off winter, it looks like that may be about to change.

There is a good chance that we could be in for a mini "Grinch Storm" over the next few days.

Friday's Storm in Maine

According to the National Weather Services, while we will have a very nice Thursday, it is the calm before the storm.

Between Thursday night and Friday morning, the skies will cloud up.

The first drops from the storm will fall sometime between 6 AM and 7 AM, depending on where in the state you are.

Wind speeds will be between 20 MPH and 30 MPH, but some areas could experience gusts in-excess of 50 MPH!

While the wind speeds will drop, Friday night will still be quite windy.  Some areas could experience 35 MPH gusts on Friday night.

Temperatures will range from 55 degrees during the day to 20 degrees on Friday night.  So, for the most part, this storm will be mostly rain and not much (if any) ice.

In total, we are likely to get around an inch of rain from the storm.

What Was the "Grinch Storm"?

In December of 2023, much of Northern New England was impacted by a storm system that brought rain, snow, and lots of wind to the region.  According to various news outlets, including WCSH 6, the storm started on December 17th and continued for the next day.

By the time it was over, the storm had caused serious flooding, washed out roads, damaged bridges, and caused millions of dollars in damages.  Worst of all, several people lost their lives as a result of flooding caused by the storm.

Fortunately, it does not look like this week's storm will be that bad.
