Fire officials on Monday released the name of the man who was killed in a fire in New Gloucester Sunday night.

The State Fire Marshal's Office says 63-year-old Raymond Howland died in the blaze on Bluff Circle.

Investigators said Howland died of smoke inhalation and the fire started in his living room.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.

Investigators said a smoke detector in Howland's home did not have any batteries in it and if it was working properly Howland likely would have survived the fire.

Howland's death was the 15th fire-related death of the year.
