I was talking with someone I met the other day and they asked me ‘What time I have to get up to get to work on time to do a morning show’?  I do crack the mic at 5 a.m., but I have a couple of other things I do as part of preparation every morning before that.  So I arrive at the office by 4 a.m.  My alarm goes at 3:21 a.m. Get it? 3-2-1 Go!

I don’t even know where the snooze button is on my alarm clock.  That’s right, alarm clock.  I don’t have the phone in the bedroom.  It’s down the hall charging. If I remembered to plug it in.  My alarm clocks is not always lit up like most alarms. You have to push a button to see the time display. So it is dark otherwise and never a distraction that might wake you up.  The clock is also totally run on batteries, so power failures don’t come into play.  And the sound of the alarm is unique too.  Birds chirping.  Starting very softly with barely audible chirp, so you’re not startled awake.  If you let the alarm continue to play it cycles thru about 8 birds and by the time you get to the end, it’s very loud crows cawing that I’m sure could be heard all over the neighborhood.

To me the key to getting up every morning early without too much fuss and fight is to get to bed early the night before. But that’s a story for another time.
