
Maine State Fire Marshal Investigates a Fatal Fire in Harpswell
One person was killed in a Tuesday morning house fire in Harpswell.

The deceased has been tentatively identified as Hugh MacFarlane, 78, of Harpswell. An autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death and confirm the identity of the deceased.

Harpswell, Maine, House Fire Damaged the Second Floor of the Home
Officials say the fire broke out before dawn on Tuesday, at 1501 Harpswell Neck Road in Harpswell. Multiple fire and law enforcement agencies responded to the fire at the single-story private home.
As firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze, they found one individual inside the residence. The person was removed from the house and pronounced deceased.

The fire caused significant damage, particularly to the second floor of the residence.

Fire officials have not speculated on what could have ignited the blaze. Investigators with the State Fire Marshal's Office are now working to determine the cause of the fire.
