Hancock County Storm Damage

Emera Maine reports nearly 13,000 residents are still without power, with the bulk of the outages downeast.

Crews worked all day yesterday and into the night, restoring electricity to more than 67,000 customers. However, as of 3:30 this morning, 12,761 residents were still in the dark. 10,068 of those customers are in Hancock County, 2,269 are in Washington County, with 356 in Northern Penobscot/Piscataquis Counties, and 68 in Penobscot County. The extremely high winds along the coast toppled huge trees and took down power lines, which has slowed the progress of the repairs.  Central Maine Power is also continuing to deal with outages. As of 7:00 this morning, 107,261 customers are without power.

The work will continue today, as crews cut trees, replace poles, and repair damaged lines. Residents are asked to use caution when driving by utility trucks and give the crews plenty of room to work safely. In addition, anyone who's using an alternate heat source/generator is asked to make sure it's hooked up according to manufacturer specs, to avoid injuring line workers. Residents are reminded that, even if they currently have electricity, it may be shut down today while crews work to restore power to others. It looks like it's going to be a mild day, with much-diminished winds, so crews should be able to make some good progress.

I'm sharing a few photos from around Hancock County, but would love to see yours from around the state. You can share them in the comments section under this post on Facebook.
