Maine's first family is mourning the loss of their dog, Baxter, who passed away on Tuesday.

Baxter was not your average Jack Russell mix. He had two Facebook pages. And a book titled 'Baxter in the Blaine House,' which was a story of the Governor's Mansion, from the dog's perspective. Proceeds from the book sales supported 'Friends of the Blaine House,' which helps to pay for the historical upkeep of the building. He even had a website, Baxterblogs/Life Inside the Blaine House.

Adopted from a Florida shelter in 2008 by the Governor's daughter Lauren, Baxter originally went by the name 'Snickers.' The LePage's changed his name to one they felt suited his personality. Baxter was about 10 years old and had been dealing with some health problems in recent years.

Our condolences to the LePage family on the loss of your furry family member. It's never easy to lose a pet. May Baxter rest in peace, across the Rainbow Bridge.

R.I.P. Baxter LePage. Last evening Baxter passed away. He will be missed by the LePage family and the many Blaine House visitors who greeted him during a visit.
