LePage Responds to Record Border Arrests: ‘Maine Deserves Safety’
The former governor of Maine and current candidate to replace Jared Golden’s seat in Congress is responding to the record number of border arrests in 2025.
LePage is currently the only Republican who has officially declared a run for Congress next November. On the Democratic side, Matthew Dunlap and Jordan Wood have announced plans to face off in a primary for Golden’s soon-to-be open seat.

In a social media post on Saturday, November 22nd, LePage shared a photo of the U.S. Border Patrol and wrote that Maine is ‘not a hiding place.’
Pointing to a record 725 arrests of people in the state illegally last fiscal year, coming from 46 different countries, LePage said that Mainers deserve safety, law and order, and leaders who put them first, while thanking the men and women protecting the border. Those numbers come directly from a representative of U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Despite a record number of apprehensions this year, officials say the Houlton Sector has seen an 80% drop in illegal crossings along Maine’s U.S.–Canada border.
Additionally, there have been no known ‘gotaways’ since January. U.S. Customs and Border Protection added that improved intelligence-sharing and close partnerships across federal, state, local, and international agencies have helped agents identify people unlawfully present in the United States—a key focus for the six Border Patrol stations that cover all of Maine.

And there you have it! Paul LePage has made it clear where he stands on the border arrests and has thanked the U.S. Border Patrol for their service.
