If you're looking for a unique gift for someone on your list, the Hammond Street Senior Center can help. And getting the gift is as much fun as giving it! The 'It's a Basket Case' fundraiser is going on all this week at the Bangor center. Check it out!

The Hammond Street Senior Center is overflowing, right now, with over 200 gift baskets that are up for bid. Each basket has its own theme, created by the center's Executive Director, Kathy Bernier.

You never know what you'll find. Some baskets are meant for children, so you might find a Barbie themed basket, or an Anime themed basket. Others are definitely for adults. Last year, I know, they had a Stephen King themed basket. There are gift cards from local merchants and eateries, mixed in with yummy treats.

And in order to see the baskets, you need to roam around the Senior Center. So it gives you a chance to see the place, meet the folks there, and bid on some pretty cool stuff! You can stop by any day this week to bid.

On Thursday, a special bidding party will be held at the Center, with refreshments to enjoy while you browse. And you can put your name in for a chance to win a $100 cash prize, courtesy of Winterberry Heights! But the bidding ends on Friday, so don't miss out!

The Hammond Street Senior Center is the 2013 Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce Community Service Award Winner. It's a wonderful place where elders from the Bangor region can hang out with friends, take classes, work out in a gym, or just play cards. The BRCC did a great video paying tribute to the center that I've included here. It starts out with Tony Caruso from BIA talking about the center, but after that there are some great interviews with some of the folks who frequent the center. It's a wonderful local resource that more people should know about!
