Geaghan’s Opting Out of a Traditional St. Patrick’s Party for 2021
As much as we want pre-2020 to be back in our sites, 2021 is showing that we need to have a bit more patience.
Geaghan's Pub & Craft Brewery has announced that they will not hold a St. Patrick's Day event due to avoiding shoulder-to-shoulder crowds and promoting staying apart at a time when it's needed most, unfortunately.
The announcement came on Facebook Monday evening that Geaghan's Pub, one of the pubs in the Bangor area that would usually be St. Patrick's Day party central, will be closed for St. Patrick's Day for another year due to the pandemic.
Here's what the local establishment posted on Facebook yesterday:
After lots of discussion and brainstorming - trying to think of anything we could to have it all work - we have decided that we will be closed for St. Patrick's Day again this year. As the picture shows clearly, the normal St. Patrick's Day crowds are just not something that can work in the current reality of this pandemic. No celebration is worth the potential that still exists for jeopardizing anyone's health and safety. We want to be back and the best way to do that is to stay the course for just a little while longer.
For our family, St. Patrick's Day has never been about a packed bar or a full pint. St. Patrick's Day for us is about family and community and joyous celebration. While we are going to be closed, because of all of your support we will still be celebrating this year by creating our traditional Corned Beef and Cabbage dinner for our neighbors at the Bangor Area Homeless Shelter. We couldn't do that without all of you so from the bottom of our hearts we thank you.
So instead of raising a pint in a packed pub, we are happy to be providing a meal for some of our neighbors who find themselves in need at this point in their journeys. Stay safe, look out for one another, and continue to push through to the end of this pandemic. Here's to the day when we can fill our pub again. It's coming. We see it. We feel it. We want to make sure not to take any steps back from the progress we've made together.
