Naples Man is Dead after Crashing his Snowmobile Saturday Morning
The Maine Warden Service says a Naples man died from injuries he sustained in a snowmobile crash.
Daniel Hammond, age 46, was riding with three friends at around 10:30 Saturday morning when the group stopped to cross the Cape Monday Road in Harrison. Hammond was next-to-last in the line of sleds and waited while two of his friends crossed the road. He, then, crossed the road with his other friend behind him and they traveled a short distance on the trail. Suddenly, Hammond's sled drove off the trail and crashed into some trees.
Wardens say Hammond was initially conscious after the crash, but succumbed to his injuries about 20 minutes later. He was wearing a helmet while driving his 2022 Ski-Doo 850 Back Country Sled.
Officials continue to investigate what caused the snowmobile to leave the trail. Hammond was taken to Halls funeral home in Casco, where he will be examined by the state medical examiner.
