An Albion woman has died after an incident involving someone trying to start a campfire.

Where Was This?

Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss says the incident happened at approximately 10:18 Friday night. First responders were called to the D& R Campground, located at 109 Pellerin Road in the town of China, for a report of a woman who had been burned from attempts to start a campfire.

How Did It Happen?

Officials say Liza Bragg, 46, of Albion, was not the person trying to light the fire, but was standing nearby while someone else tried to get the fire going. Others who were with her at the campsite called 911. Bragg was taken to a local hospital first, but was then transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland because of the severity of her burns. It was there that she succumbed to her injuries.

The incident is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal's Office. Our condolences to Ms. Bragg's family and friends.
