Ellsworth Police Conducting OUI Checkpoints Through The Weekend
Police will be stepping up OUI enforcement this weekend.
Ellsworth Police are planning to conduct OUI road checks this weekend. Before we get the comment of "why are you telling us where and when they'll be?" There's reasoning behind police departments publicizing planned checkpoints. Announcing OUI road checks can enhance their preventative effect, and can reduce discomfort for area drivers. Plus OUI checkpoints are nothing to fear, or much of an inconvenience if you're not driving impaired.
Ellsworth Police say checkpoints will start August, 5 through August 8. The details are focused around the Route 1A and Route 3 corridor, between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m. Police say "Please make sure you have a sober driver so everyone can enjoy the weekend."

The Maine Bureau of Highway Safety is funding the checkpoints.
