A father and son from Dexter have been charged with drug trafficking after a months-long investigation.

Norman Bashaw Jr., 59, and Norman Bashaw III, 27, each faces a felony charge of fentanyl trafficking. Also charged in the investigation is 30-year-old Kayla Trasker of Dexter.

The arrests come after a joint investigation by the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Dexter Police Department. Authorities had been investigating a home on Garland Road where they suspected fentanyl was being sold. The investigation included several undercover purchases of the drug from individuals inside the home, according to police.

Police said the 18-month-old child of Norman Bashaw III and Tasker was present during the Wednesday arrests. The child was taken into DHHS custody.

The three suspects were taken to Piscataquis County Jail.

Norman Bashaw III also had three outstanding warrants for his arrests. He was found hiding in a crawl space beneath a door on the home's floor, police said.
