Coordinated Response Needed to Fight Wildfire In Acadia National Park Sunday

Members of 6 local fire departments along with Acadia Park Rangers and the Maine Forest Service combined to fight a wildland fire in Acadia National Park along the St. Sauveur hiking trail on Sunday, April 23rd

Crews from Southwest Harbor , Bar Harbor, Lamoine, Mount Desert, Tremont and Trenton along with the Maine State Forest Service and park rangers were toned out around 3:30 p.m and fought the fire which burned about a half-acre.

The fire was suppressed by 6 p.m. Sunday night.

Acadia National Park Superintendent Kevin Schneider said

We are incredible appreciative of all of the local agencies who responed to this unexpected event. As we head into another busy season - we are reminded how lucky we are to work with community members who help us protect Acadia National Park and its visitors.

Acadia National Park, reminds visitors that contained charcoal and wood fires are allowed only in campgrounds and designated picnic areas within park-provided receptacles or in private grills, and they should be monitored closely at all times.
