Crews will be breaking ground on improvements to the Pickering Square area in Downtown Bangor.

The city of Bangor is looking to give Pickering Square a new look. Construction will be get underway this month to make the area more functional, welcoming and add needed amenities. The first phase of the project includes improving the small public spaces on opposite sides on Merchants Plaza with movable tables and chairs. In addition, the city wants to move the entrance of the garage to the opposite side of the building.

Phase one construction is expected to wrap up in August.

According to the city's project rendering, future upgrades include adding public bathrooms in the square and improving the pedestrian bridge near the garage.
