Connecticut Woman Dies in Solon Snowmobile Crash
A Connecticut woman has died after crashing her snowmobile in Somerset County over the weekend.
The Maine Warden Service says Michelle Pavia died while operating a snowmobile on Ironbound Pond in Solon on Saturday night. The 43-year-old was headed off the ice at approximately 9:45 p.m., when she drove off the ice and struck the shoreline. Pavia was ejected from her sled and struck the treeline. She was not wearing a helmet and died at the scene. Officials say it appears speed and operator inexperience are likely factors in the crash. Warden Sergeant Alan Cross advises all operators to wear their helmets whenever they're riding.
The Athens and Solon Fire Departments and the Somerset County Sheriff's Office all assisted game wardens at the scene.
