How Did Police Catch Up to Him?
The Penobscot County Sheriff's Office was conducting a speed detail on Scott's Point Road when a Deputy allegedly witnessed a vehicle just after 7:30 traveling at a high rate of speed. The Deputy followed the vehicle and, when it turned into a residence, saw the driver get out and run towards and into the house. There were two passengers in the vehicle and both were compliant, telling the Deputy that the man who ran off was named 'Charlie' and that he wouldn't surrender.
Just then, the Deputy heard the back door to the home open. He ran to the back of the house in time to see 'Charlie' running out the door. The suspect, who was later identified as Michaud, tripped and rolled a couple of times, jumped up, and squared off with the Deputy, with his hands raised in a fighting stance. The Deputy commanded the man to comply and, when he refused, deployed his Taser, subduing the suspect.
Are There Additional Charges, In Addition to the Warrants?
At first, Michaud gave the Deputy a false name and date of birth but once his identity was confirmed, he was taken into custody. Charles Michaud had five active arrest warrants and two active sets of bail conditions. In addition, his driver's license was revoked as a habitual offender. He was arrested and charged with the following crimes:
- 5 separate warrants, including an arrest warrant for failing to turn himself into jail in March 2024 to serve a required jail sentence. Officials say stay of executions authorized by the courts has continued to cause problems for the Sheriff's Office due to defendants not turning themselves in and defendants arriving at the jail concealing contraband
- Operating after habitual offender revocation
- Violating conditions of release
- Refusing to submit to arrest or detention.
In addition, John Williams 47, of Alton was arrested for two outstanding warrants.
