We know you don't want to hear about Christmas just yet, but with more than 1,700 boxes to fill for kids statewide, the Maine Children's Home hopes you'll take a minute to buy a gift or two.

A package from the Maine Children's Home for Little Wanderers is like a treasure trove for kids, because they don't limit the 'gift' to one thing. Each box from the Christmas program includes:

  • A warm hat and mittens
  • A pair of pajamas
  • Underwear
  • Socks
  • An outfit
  • A reading book
  • A coloring book
  • A board game
  • One or more popular toys

So with all of those items going in every single box, and over 1,700 boxes sent out last year, you can understand why the Christmas elves at the Maine Children's Home are hoping people will start buying items now. And they expect that, because of the pandemic, the need this year will be even greater. That's why they've set up an Amazon Wish list, where folks can just buy items off the list and they'll be sent directly to the Maine Children's Home. It's easy. Plus, it will give you a warm feeling that will last right through the end of the year. And let's face it, good news is in short supply lately. We could all use a little more.

Because of the health crisis, there have been a couple of changes to this year's program. They are no longer accepting used toys, only new ones. And they have not yet started taking applications for the program. Find more information about when those applications will be accepted and how to get signed up on the website for the Maine Children's Home for Little Wanderers Christmas Program website. Keep up-to-date on the progress of the program through the organization's Facebook page.
