The Incident Involved a Violent Attack and an Alleged Robbery
Brewer Police were called to South Main Street at around 11:00 Wednesday evening for a report of an assault. When they arrived, they found the victim suffering from serious injuries to his head. The victim, whose name has not been released, was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
An investigation into the incident led police to Ireland, who had allegedly blocked the roadway with his vehicle before approaching the victim with a hammer and a firearm. Brewer Police say the two men fought and the victim was struck multiple times in the head with the hammer. Ireland allegedly left the scene with property that belonged to the victim. Officials have not commented on what was stolen.
Police Say This Was Not a Random Act
When Brewer Officers learned that Ireland was in Bangor, they contacted the Bangor Police Department. Bangor PD found Ireland and arrested him for elevated aggravated assault, criminal threatening, and robbery. Investigators determined that Ireland and the victim knew each other and that the attack was not a random act.
