3 Face Drug Charges After Incidents at Brewer Circle K, Walmart

Three people were arrested on drug charges after incidents at the Circle K and Walmart stores in Brewer.

What Happened at Brewer Walmart?

Employees of Brewer Walmart reported a theft in progress to police on May 1st and a female suspect who was fleeing. Brewer Police Officer Mikayla Rose was first on the scene and came in contact with Amy Barnes, 45, of Orrington. Officer Rose attempted to take Barnes into custody, but she allegedly resisted and the two struggled. Officer Curtis got to the store and assisted in detaining Barnes, who was out on bail and had two active warrants for her arrest.

Sergeant Scott Jones and Officer Tanner Favreau arrived to assist in a search of the vehicle Barnes had been driving, after drug paraphernalia was noticed inside. A juvenile was in the vehicle, at the time of Barnes' arrest, as well as Koby Nevells, 19, of Stockton Springs who allegedly tried to interfere with the search and police say refused to submit to detention, allegedly pushing Officer Curtis during the struggle. Seized from that vehicle were a significant amount of illegal drugs, including fentanyl and methamphetamine, and a fictitious inspection sticker that was illegally attached to the vehicle.

Amy Barnes is charged with:

Theft
Refusing to submit to arrest
Violation of condition of release
Displaying fictitious inspection sticker
Unlawful possession of schedule drug
Two active arrest warrants
Traffic summons for operating after suspension

Koby Nevells is charged with:

Refusing to submit to arrest/detention
Unlawful possession of a schedule drug

Brewer Police say more charges are anticipated in this incident once the drugs have been analyzed and weighed.

What About at Circle K?

In a separate incident on May 3rd, Officer Savannah Lutz was on patrol in the area of the Circle K Store on North Main Street when she noticed a suspicious person going in and out of the store several times, at approximately 4:00 in the morning. While she still had the man in sight, dispatch reported a theft complaint from an employee of the store. The suspect was the man the Officer was watching. Officer Lutz approached the man inside the store but he allegedly refused to be handcuffed and a brief struggle ensued before Gary Tweedie was taken into custody. During the arrest, Officer Lutz seized in excess of 40 grams of fentanyl, as well as approximately 3 gross grams of methamphetamine. Police say he allegedly refused to identify himself.

Gary Tweedie is charged with:
