Drivers in Brewer will want to pay attention near Circle K on North Main Street as crews continue to work on a broken water main.

Broken Brewer Water Main Spilled Over 750K Gallons of Water

I came by this scene yesterday and didn't realize what was happening. There's been so much construction on State Street in Brewer that I assumed it was part of that project. Now I wish I had looked down at the roadway in front of the vehicles, behind the cones, where a river of water was running down North Main Street from a broken water main that actually collapsed the pavement next to the Circle K's parking lot. Officials told WABI-TV that more than 750,000 gallons of water were lost in the span of about 15 minutes.

Work on the Broken Water Main in Brewer Will Continue On Tuesday

As I came into work this morning, I drove by the scene and noticed that the cones are still in place, preventing drivers from taking that right lane down toward the Penobscot Bridge. More work needs to be done before the lane will be reopened, so I expect that crews will be on the scene today.

Drivers Should Watch for Detours or Avoid the Brewer Intersection Altogether

Drivers are advised that traffic will be slowed in that area, so detouring around the intersection will probably save some headaches. At this point, there's no timeline on when the repairs will be completed and the road reopened to full traffic.

We'll update this story as more details become available.
