UPDATE: Bangor police said Friday afternoon the bones found were not human remains.


ORIGINAL STORY: An official at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center discovered what could be human remains at a construction site at the Bangor hospital.

According to a news release from the hospital, the hospital official was inspecting the area behind the Greystone Building at about 3 p.m. Thursday when he discovered what might be human remains.

Bangor police are working with the state's Office of Chief Medical Examiner to determine of the nature of the remains, including how old they are.

According to the release, other objects found during the project date back to the early 1900s.

The construction, which will reinforce a retaining wall at the facility, was halted while the investigation proceeds.
