A body recovered from an area lake Monday morning is believed to be that of a missing Belgrade man, the Maine Warden Service said.

Game wardens recovered the body, which is believed to that of Derek Plange, from Salmon Lake in Belgrade at 10:40 a.m., said Cpl. John MacDonald.

Plange had been missing since Jan. 9.

Game wardens responded to the lake after a witness reporting seeing an ATV under the ice on Sunday.

When game wardens arrived, a pair of boots was found frozen to the ice about 35 feet from the ATV.

A warden service dive team searched the lake and recovered the body in 28 feet of water, MacDonald said.

The body was transported to the medical examiner’s office in Augusta for positive identification.
